Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that the Law on the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy shall meet the public interests and consolidate the society.

"The Law on the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy can be considered as second most important document after the Constitution of Ukraine, since it specifies the constitutional provisions and sets the milestones in the development of the country", V.Lytvyn stated on Friday, asked by Rada television channel.

The Head of the Parliament stressed that the document "shall meet the public interests and consolidate the society, that is omit the statements and provisions provoking objections in any part of the society."

V.Lytvyn stated that this document is necessary "to understand the world-view principles that underlie the activity of the authorities." "Thus, at first sight traditional document carries an enormous load, he stated. I suppose that the authorities should use the laws to help people understand that they can be the masters of their lives."

Characterizing the bill adopted at the first reading, V.Lytvyn stated that is a sound foundation "for The Verkhovna Rada jointly with the Government and the President to enhance it to the highest level." He believes that the Parliament should play a crucial role in this process.
